Miss America’s Outstanding Teen distances self from Miss America controversy

As you know, Miss America has made some radical changes to its program this past week. (More on that in an upcoming post…) Many have wondered, “What is happening with Miss America’s Outstanding Teen?” MAOT sent out an email on June 5 that I will copy in its entirety below.

June 5, 2018
In light of the recent announced changes to the Miss America mission and competition, we (MAOTeen Inc.) want to let you all know that there are NO changes being contemplated, at this time, for the teen competition.  We have believed from our first year (13 years ago) that the teen program should concentrate on empowering teen girls to be good citizens in their communities and schools, accomplished scholars, talented and healthy.  We still believe these are all good traits for which to aspire and we will continue to promote this mission.
We wish our “big sister” all the best as they make changes to the Miss America program.  Change is never easy and we support the leadership as they navigate these new waters.
Gratefully,
Donna and Kristin

Pretty clearly, MAOT is keeping its format in place. Keep in mind MAOT never had swimsuit (they have active wear). Keep in mind, though, that MAO stated they will “no longer be judged on outward physical appearance” which in some other statements has meant a revamp or removal of the Evening Gown and some reports state that they will even be taking away the crown completely from what is now no longer a pageant.

The PageantCast applauds MAOT for remaining a pageant and wishes them much luck and success.
