MISS GEORGIA’S OUTSTANDING TEEN, MISS RHODE ISLAND’S OUTSTANDING TEEN AND MISS TEXAS’ OUTSTANDING TEEN
WIN PRELIMINARY AWARDS
AT THE 2018 MISS AMERICA’S OUTSTANDING TEEN COMPETITION
Orlando, Florida – July 24, 2018 – Miss Texas’ Outstanding Teen, London Hibbs, was named Tuesday night’s preliminary Talent winner for her vocal rendition of “Think of Me” during the first night of the 2018 Miss America’s Outstanding Teen Competition at the Linda Chapin Theater in Orlando. London will receive a $500 scholarship.
Also in the spotlight were Miss Georgia’s Outstanding Teen, Rory Pan, and Miss Rhode Island’s Outstanding Teen, Macie Johnson, who tied for the preliminary Evening Wear/On-Stage Question award. Each will receive a $500 scholarship.
Five other young women were recognized as finalists for the Teens in Action Award, a $1,000 scholarship that recognizes outstanding achievement in their personal platform. The finalists who will be interviewed for the award later this week are:
- Miss Tennessee’s Outstanding Teen, Mary Humphrey (Pages With A Purpose)
- Miss Arizona’s Outstanding Teen, Ashlyn Thompson (Dress a Girl Around the World)
- Miss New York’s Outstanding Teen, Cayla Kumar (The Gold Ribbon Campaign – Curing Pediatric Cancer)
- Miss Missouri’s Outstanding Teen, Ashley Whipple (Just A Drop – Type 1 Diabetes Awareness)
- Miss Mississippi’s Outstanding Teen, Presley Caldwell (Save Our Skin- Raising Awareness For Skin Cancer Prevention)
Also honored for their AD Sales efforts was Collins McMurray, Miss Alabama’s Outstanding Teen, Cecilia Petrush, Miss Pennsylvania’s Outstanding Teen, and London Hibbs, Miss Texas’ Outstanding Teen. The winner was Cecilia Petrush, winning a $1000 scholarship.
Awarded anonymously to “pay it forward”, this year’s winner of the Random Act of Kindness Award is Micah Schlittenhardt, Miss North Dakota’s Outstanding Teen.
The little sister to Miss America, the Miss America’s Outstanding Teen Organization is one of the nation’s leading achievement programs and will make available more than $121,000 in cash scholarships in 2018. The Miss America’s Outstanding Teen Organization encourages positive achievement by helping to nurture and build the scholastic achievement, creative accomplishment, healthy living and community involvement of our nation’s youth.
