Cuba debuts at Miss International Beauty Pageant in Chengdu, China
The International Cultural Association (ICA) producers of Miss International Beauty Pageant, has given the license rights for Cuba to the Miss Cuba Organization. The ICA confirmed Cuba’s participation which contract was signed on May 30th 2009. “We are extremely happy to have Cuba represented at one of the most prestigious beauty pageants in the world. We only hope that other organizations like MU & MW join and allow Cuba compete at such events”. Due to the political status of the island the government does not allow beauty pageant to be held in Cuba since 1959. We hope that this may change soon, we believe that Cuba much to offer culturally & of course in natural beauty. Cuban women are known by there elegance, flawless beauty, sex appeal and a commanding presence.
Miss International Beauty Pageant began in 1960 in Long Beach, California, where it was staged until 1967, before moving to Japan from 1968-1970 to commemorate the Osaka World Expo (the 1968 Pageant was held at the Nippon Budokan, with the “Ginza Parade” from Hibiya Park to Nihonbashi received to great acclaim). This led to it being staged in Japan every year from 1972 onward. What is more, Miss International contestants have appeared at every international expo held in Japan so far, lending glamour. This year, the Pageant will be taking place in Chengdu, China as the pre-event for the Shanghai World Expo 2010 ranks as the core event of international goodwill activities in China, which is enjoyed spectacular economic growth.
Patricia Rosales has been chosen via national casting to represent Cuba at Miss International. She will become the first Cuban representative to ever compete at the prestigious event. This gives Patricia the opportunity to volunteer & present her platform Hunger Relief. Presently she is working closely with her Pageant Coach Francisco Gomez, photographer Andres Gonzalez & National Director Noemi Melendez preparing for Miss International Beauty Pageant to be held Nov 28, 2009 in China. During her participation Patricia will be wearing designs from Fashions by Azucar (Cuba), Franovik Designs (Venezuela & PR), Dina Medina (USA), Jacinta Ligon (USA), Reynaldo Jose (PR) & Elizabeth Carderon (Mexico).
We are confident that Patricia will do an amazing job at Miss International she has proven to our organization that she has the drive to win. The Cuban community internationally should be proud to have such a beautiful delegate.

Jayna Altman coming to the PageantCast!

Jayna Altman, Miss International 2008
At Miss International pageant 2009, I was able to capture a fantastic interview with Miss International 2008, Jayna Altman. Jayna was an amazing Miss International and we recorded an unprecedented three segments (!) interview.
Jayna tells us about living with being deaf and how she’s been able to succeed. She discusses her past appearances and what is in store for her in the future. Of course, her incredibly funny and inspiring story about capturing the crown really is the frosting on the gravy for the whole interview!
I know you will be exciting for you to hear this interview and it is coming soon to the PageantCast!

While I was in Chicago, I got a ton of requests for photos of the pageant. Well, I can’t take photos at the pageant. They have professionals that actually know what they are doing and can get anywhere in the auditorium to do that.
In the case of Miss and Teen International, that professional is friend of the show, Dan Buikema. Dan does an excellent job…and all his pics are now ONLINE! Check out his website at http://www.danbuikema.com/ Click on the International Pageant link, go to the studio lab, click on activity and then click Mrs. International. Or save yourself some time and click this link:

That link WILL expire, so follow Dan’s website if that doesn’t work. He does great work and if you like the photos you can order them through the lab or e-mail Dan privately and ask for a discounted price on sets of photos. Tell him your old buddy Tim at the PageantCast sent you!!
Miss and Teen International Pageant – Finals Night
Jul 26th

Jessica Byington & Erin Golden with Tim
We’re here at the pageant and there are a number of sighs of relief. Why? This morning when I came to the theater to record interviews all the ladies were practicing opening number in the lobby. They had to practice there because of the light from the windows…you see, the power was knocked out last night by an electrical storm that swept through the area last night. For a while there, it looked like the pageant might have had to be located to a different facility, but around noon, the power was back and we were back on track for tonight’s festivities. Nonetheless, I didn’t get as many interviews as I would have liked, but the most important thing is the pageant would go on without issue.
Now, you’ve read in my past posts about the production and the incredible gowns and colors of the evening. We’re going to scaling back on that for this report as we will now focus on the results and awards of the evening.

Joy Pfister & Jayna Altman
First award of the night was the Director of the Year which was awarded to Joy Pfister, North Carolina. I was honored to be the emcee of that particular event this year and I’m so happy for her and send out a big congratulations to her.
After the opening number and the bedlam that ensues with that and introductions, we went into the first group of awards. there were a number of times today where even with the mikes going, it was hard to hear the production over the screams of the audience. It was electric…they could have used that this morning! (You knew that was coming! Admit it.)
First reminders: Photogenic award was Elise Ellison, Miss Teen California International, and Erin Golden, Miss Southeastern International, which were awarded on Thursday and Friday evening.
The first award of the night was the Online Voting Awards. For Miss Teen: Victoria Goldberg, Miss Teen Virginia International. For Miss: Julie Tesh, Miss North Carolina International.
They went into the Top Ten for the Miss Teen International and they were read off in this random order:
Jessica Scheu, Miss Teen Minnesota International
Megan McNab, Miss Teen Alabama International
Jessica Simpson, Miss Teen Maryland International
Jessica Byington, Miss Teen Ohio International
Audrey Denison, Miss Teen Nevada International
Elise Ellison, Miss Teen California International
Kristyn Baker, Miss Teen Arkansas International
Juliana McKee, Miss Teen District of Columbia International
Cassidy Bronson, Miss Teen Idaho International
Sheilja Patel, Miss Teen Oregon International
They went into the Top Ten for the Miss International and they were read off in this random order:
Erin Golden, Miss Southeast International
Julie Tesh, Miss North Carolina International
Ashley Gilder, Miss Alabama International
Maddy Thoele, Miss Minnesota International
Heather Jaecklyn, Miss Wyoming International
Danielle Schmidt, Miss Georgia International
Ashley Dixon, Miss Virginia International
Berkley Schmidt, Miss Maine International
Celeste Alexander, Miss South International
Tressa Horton, Miss Arkansas International

Past & Present Titleholders
Interviews followed. Each contestant was asked to respond in 30 seconds explaining their pageant and then 30 seconds on a follow-up question about their platform. The ladies were all very poised and articulate. This was followed by Fun Fashion Wear.
Intermission was followed by Ryan Greenawalt’s rendition of “Fill me up, Buttercup.” You can check out his work at http://www.ryangreenawalt.com/
Fitness Wear was the next competition followed by a tune performed by Kyle Gordon. Evening Gown competition completed the competition phases of the evening. It was truly an elegant and sophisticated affair as my trusty Sparkle-ometer shorted out. I guess I’ll have to take it to the shop.
While scores were being tabulated, Ryan Greenawalt and Kyle Gordon sang a tune with guitar by Johnathon Davenport. It was welcome release with a quiet moment after so much high energy pageantry. Truly a haunting moment that was pitch perfect for that moment in the day.
Ryan Greenawalt performed “Proud” next, another more somber selection as the tension grew with each moment. As the song began to swell up, you could feel the anticipation in the audience grow. Jayna Altman, Miss International 2008, took her final walk as the reigning titleholder. She was truly a class act and has been a great credit to the proud heritage that is Miss International.
Kyle Gordon sang another tune as scores were tabulated, checked and rechecked. The ladi3es all retook the stage as the tune completed.
The Miss Teen International results were:
4th Runner Up: Kristyn Baker, Miss Teen Arkansas International
3rd Runner Up: Elise Ellisen, Miss Teen California International
2nd Runner Up: Megan McNab, Miss Teen Alabama International
1st Runner Up: Jessica Scheu, Miss Teen Minnesota International
Miss Teen International 2009: Jessica Byington, Miss Teen Ohio International
The Miss International results were:
4th Runner Up: Berkley Schmidt, Miss Maine International
3rd Runner Up: Ashley Gilder, Miss Alabama International
2nd Runner Up: Celeste Alexander, Miss South International
1st Runner Up: Maddy Thoele, Miss Minnesota International
Miss International 2009: Erin Golden, Miss Southeast International
Congratulations to all these lovely and accomplished young women!

Miss International Preliminary 2009
Jul 24th
We’re here again in Chicago, IL for the 2009 Miss International Preliminary pageant. It was a great evening for pageants and we’re looking forward to a spectacular evening. I’ve had the priveledge to get to know some of the Miss contestants this year, and they are a fantastic bunch of ladies. I had my seat belt secured, sparkle-ometer trained on the stage, and we were ready to pageant it on up!
Tonight the opening number featured the contestants in turquoise outfits with a sparkle feature on their waist. The audience nearly became unglued during the number…those Teens were whooping it up! You could really feel the e3xcitement. I was a little concerned for Ryan Greenawalt’s safety for a minute, but I know he can take care of himself after hearing his tune “Joy” on his new EP “What You Heard.” (Check it out at his website: http://www.ryangreenawalt.com/)
I should mention to fans of this production need to check out Matt Davenport Productions at their website: http://www.mattdavenportproductions.com/ Great place to get a feel of the high quality productions their team puts on! They do a great job at letting the girls have a good time in a highly professional production they can be proud to take part in.
Enough with the gushing. Back to the report.
Joanne and Kyle were fantastic as hosts again this year and root the production with some gravitas and a comfortable ease. They spoke again about the “Go Red for Women” platform that the International pageants have adopted as their platform.
Jayna Altman, Miss International 2008, came out to speak to us about her accomplishments this year. She spoke about her platform, ICAN, and she did a great job having traveled 164,000 miles, 163 cities, and assisted in raising $12 million. That’s quite an amazing accomplishment to perform in one year…and I know she is not done!
VIP’s tonight included: Laurin Floyd (choreographer), Paige Richardson Miss Teen International 2002, Jade Kenney Miss Teen International 2006, Allie DeSantis Miss Teen International 2007, Mrs. California International 2009 Sheryl Ellison, Mrs. Colorado International 2009 Michelle Fields, and Executive Directors Mel & Mary Richardson.
This was followed with the Fun Fashion Wear competition. Again there was a beautiful diversity of fashion on display. Some seemed downright formal to me, but absolutely all of it had a great flair and fun excitement to it. There were some stunning use of different material types as well in this part of the competition. While there were some outfits with no sparkle at all, there were a number that caused the sparkle-ometer to melt down. Luckily, I had the spare parts available to continue on. Which is lucky. As you know. (Love me some incomplete sentences. Like this.)
The next competition was Fitness Wear and these girls were all in tip-top shape for the event! They were a beautiful group of ladies and it was wonderful to see them!
We had another great intermission where I got some great photos with people I’ve known from Facebook and, of course, some past guests that I spoke to over the telephone. It’s always a treat to get to know and meet personally listeners and friends online.
Ryan Greenawalt warmed us up again with one of the tunes from his EP and we were ready for the second half. Ryan was really steaming up the rock-star glasses on this performance!
There was a kind of crazy period there where everyone shouted out their favorite contestant’s name and well, the hosts lost control of the show for a moment. It was great fun! However, after the audience “simmered down” it was time for the Evening Gown competition. The ladies came out in some gorgeous gowns, but you knew that. You knew they would be spectacular. You knew they would be stunning modelling them. You knew I wouldn’t give you the details as to who was wearing what and commenting on them…we’ll let you judge for yourself. Again, I direct you to Dan Buikema’s excellent photographs over at http://www.danbuikema.com/ As always, check out my directions how to find the photos I posted earlier this week.
I noticed a good number of white gowns, but not as many pastels this time. More rich tones and deep colors for the gowns in the Miss competition…at least to my reckoning. There were a few black gowns and with last week’s first runner up black gown from Kristin Melton, I’m expecting to see that trend upward for a while. I’m a real fan of a black gown…have to admit it. The ladies made the best of their time onstage with wonderful modelling on display and lovely skill, charm, poise, and sophistication.
Sparkle-ometer was hitting a middle point during this competition, but I did see some wonderful beading on a number of gowns. Some of the jewelry was breathtaking.
It was time then for a closing number and preliminary awards.
Jayna Altman, the reigning Miss International, was recalled to the stage to deliver the special awards.
The photogenic award was given to Miss Southeast International, Erin Golden.
Miss Congeniality, voted on by her fellow contestants, was a tie: Ashley Herron Miss Massachusetts International and Jordyn Colao, Miss Pennsylvania International. They will have to have a fist fight for the plaque I guess. Just some advice: use the jab. Too many people depend on the uppercut and without the footwork, it isn’t as effective.
I kid.
See you tomorrow night for more!
Tonight’s Review:
Also, remember we will be live again tomorrow after the pageant.
